CD19 CAR-T cells + BCMA CAR-T cells is a combination cell therapy being developed by Chengdu Ucello Biotechnology for the treatment of refractory systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This therapeutic approach involves the infusion of autologous T cells engineered to express chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) targeting two distinct antigens: CD19, which is expressed on B cells, and B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), which is primarily expressed on plasma cells. By simultaneously depleting both B cells and long-lived plasma cells, the therapy aims to eliminate the sources of pathogenic autoantibodies and induce a deep 'immune reset' in patients with severe, treatment-resistant SLE. This dual-targeting strategy is intended to provide more comprehensive B-cell depletion than CD19-targeted therapy alone.
