CD19-directed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR-T) T cells are an autologous cell therapy where a patient's T cells are genetically engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting the CD19 antigen, which is widely expressed on B-cell lineage cells. Upon re-infusion, these cells recognize and eliminate CD19-positive malignant B cells. In the context of the Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital's clinical research, this therapy is being evaluated as a consolidation strategy for adult patients with newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome-negative (Ph-) B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), often following induction with low-dose chemotherapy and other targeted agents like inotuzumab ozogamicin or blinatumomab.
