CD8+NKG2D+ AKT cell therapy is an autologous adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by Shanghai First Peoples' Hospital. The therapy involves the ex vivo expansion and activation of CD8+ T cells that are characterized by the expression of the NKG2D (Natural Killer Group 2 Member D) receptor. NKG2D is an activating receptor that recognizes stress-induced ligands, such as MICA and MICB, which are frequently overexpressed on the surface of malignant cells, including those in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). By leveraging the cytotoxic potential of CD8+ T cells and the broad tumor-recognition capabilities of the NKG2D receptor, this therapy aims to target and eliminate residual cancer cells. It has been primarily investigated as an adjuvant treatment in combination with gemcitabine for patients with resected stage II–III pancreatic cancer to improve survival outcomes.
