Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ce6 + paclitaxel is an experimental combination therapy consisting of chlorin e6 (Ce6), a photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy, and paclitaxel, a well-established microtubule-stabilizing chemotherapeutic agent. Chlorin e6 acts by generating reactive oxygen species upon activation with specific wavelengths of light, leading to direct tumor cell death and vascular shutdown. Paclitaxel inhibits cell division by stabilizing microtubules and preventing their depolymerization, resulting in apoptosis of rapidly dividing cancer cells. The combination aims to enhance antitumor efficacy through synergistic mechanisms—photodynamic damage from Ce6 sensitizes tumor cells to the cytotoxic effects of paclitaxel.
