Overview

A combination of cefazolin (a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic) and indomethacin (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) used perioperatively during physical examination-indicated cerclage placement in pregnant women. This combination has been shown to significantly prolong gestational latency without increasing the incidence of chorioamnionitis. The standard protocol involves weight-based intravenous cefazolin (1g if <100kg, 2g if >100kg) pre-operatively and every 8 hours for two doses post-operatively, along with 50mg indomethacin orally immediately post-operatively, then every 8 hours for two additional doses.
