Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cefdinir + clavulanic acid is an oral combination antibiotic product composed of cefdinir, a third-generation cephalosporin, and clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefdinir inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell death. Clavulanic acid irreversibly inhibits a range of beta-lactamase enzymes, which protects cefdinir from degradation by resistant bacteria and extends its antibacterial spectrum. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections due to susceptible bacteria.
