Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cefepime + Arginine is a sterile injectable antibiotic formulation consisting of cefepime hydrochloride, a fourth-generation cephalosporin, and L-arginine. Developed and manufactured as a sterile API by Nectar Lifesciences, this combination uses L-arginine as a buffering agent to maintain the pH of the reconstituted solution between 4.0 and 6.0, ensuring stability and compatibility for parenteral administration. Cefepime exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls. It possesses a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens and is indicated for the treatment of serious infections, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, septicemia, and febrile neutropenia.
