cefepime + dextrose

Cefepime + dextrose is a combination product consisting of the antibiotic cefepime (as cefepime hydrochloride) and dextrose as a diluent, supplied in a dual-chamber intravenous (IV) container. Cefepime is a fourth-generation, broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic that acts by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. The dextrose component serves as an intravenous diluent (5% dextrose in water). This combination is primarily indicated for moderate to severe pneumonia (including cases with bacteremia), empiric therapy for febrile neutropenic patients, uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections (including pyelonephritis), uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, and, in combination with metronidazole, complicated intra-abdominal infections; all due to susceptible bacterial strains. The product is supplied in a flexible dual-chamber, single-use DUPLEX container for IV use only[1].
