Drug intelligence / Profile preview
afime-az-lb is a combination pharmaceutical product containing two antibiotics, cefixime and azithromycin, along with the probiotic Lactobacillus (often referred to as Lactic Acid Bacillus). Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin that exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. The inclusion of Lactobacillus serves as a probiotic to maintain or restore healthy intestinal microflora, thereby reducing the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. This combination is typically used for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and typhoid fever. It is marketed as a branded generic product by Pharma Drugs & Chemicals under a PCD (Propaganda Cum Distribution) franchise model.
