Drug intelligence / Profile preview
cefixime + dicloxacillin + lactic acid bacillus is an oral fixed-dose combination of two beta-lactam antibiotics and a probiotic, primarily used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections while protecting gastrointestinal health. Cefixime is an orally active, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that exhibits broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against Gram-negative and some Gram-positive pathogens. Dicloxacillin is a narrow-spectrum, penicillinase-resistant penicillin antibiotic that is highly effective against penicillinase-producing Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus. To counteract the common side effect of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, the formulation includes lactic acid bacillus (a probiotic), which helps restore and maintain the natural balance of beneficial gut microflora. This combination is approved and marketed in India for indications including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media.
