Cefixime + metronidazole is a combination of two antibiotics used to treat mixed bacterial infections, particularly those involving both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is primarily effective against Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive organisms[3]. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antibiotic that disrupts DNA synthesis in susceptible anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa, resulting in cell death[6][9].
