Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cefixime + moxifloxacin is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic therapy developed by Cosmas Pharmaceuticals. This combination pairs cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin, with moxifloxacin, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone, to provide a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which leads to cell lysis. Moxifloxacin acts by inhibiting DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. The product is specifically formulated as a sustained-release (SR) oral dosage form, typically containing 400mg of each component, intended for the treatment of various bacterial infections.
