Overview

Bactinice is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic product developed and marketed by Rowez Life Sciences. It contains two active pharmaceutical ingredients: cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin, and ofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including typhoid fever (enteric fever), respiratory tract infections, and urinary tract infections, particularly those that may be resistant to single-agent therapies. Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis. Ofloxacin complements this action by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential enzymes for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. The dual mechanism provides a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens.
