SYOFIX-O is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic product containing cefixime and ofloxacin, developed and marketed by Sycon Healthcare. Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin that exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Ofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. This combination is particularly effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and is frequently prescribed for the treatment of typhoid fever (enteric fever), complicated urinary tract infections, and respiratory tract infections where resistance to monotherapy is suspected.
