Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gremax-CV is an oral combination antibiotic containing cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin, and potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefixime works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Potassium clavulanate acts as a suicide inhibitor of bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, protecting cefixime from enzymatic degradation and overcoming bacterial resistance. Developed by Grevis Pharma, Gremax-CV is formulated as a tablet and is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhea.
