Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination antibiotic regimen consisting of cefotaxime (a third-generation cephalosporin) and rifampin (a rifamycin antibiotic). This combination demonstrates significant bactericidal activity against penicillin-resistant bacteria and multi-drug resistant strains, particularly Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The combination has been shown to cause bacterial DNA fragmentation and maintain rifampin susceptibility in bacterial strains that would develop resistance to rifampin alone.
