cefotetan + cefoxitin

Cefotetan + cefoxitin is a combination of two second-generation cephamycin antibiotics used parenterally for the treatment and prophylaxis of a wide range of moderate to severe bacterial infections. Both drugs are structurally related beta-lactam antibiotics with broad-spectrum activity against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. They act by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. This combination is not marketed as a fixed-dose product but may be referenced in comparative or sequential clinical use for serious polymicrobial infections such as intra-abdominal, skin/soft tissue, gynecologic (including pelvic inflammatory disease), bone/joint infections, and perioperative surgical prophylaxis[1][2][4][6][7]. Both agents are inactive against Chlamydia species; thus, additional coverage may be required when these pathogens are suspected[4][7].
