Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zyfrom-S is a combination antibiotic containing cefpirome, a fourth-generation cephalosporin, and sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Developed by Zyphars Pharmaceutics, it is indicated for the treatment of severe and complicated bacterial infections, including lower respiratory tract infections, complicated urinary tract infections, septicemia, skin and soft tissue infections, and infections in neutropenic or immunocompromised patients. Cefpirome exerts its bactericidal activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Sulbactam acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, preventing the enzymatic degradation of cefpirome by beta-lactamases and extending its spectrum of activity against resistant bacterial strains.
