Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ORDOX-LB is a combination pharmaceutical product containing the third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic cefpodoxime proxetil and the probiotic *Bacillus coagulans* (formerly known as *Lactobacillus sporogenes*). Cefpodoxime proxetil is an orally active prodrug that is hydrolyzed to its active metabolite, cefpodoxime, which exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). It is indicated for the treatment of various mild to moderate bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin infections. The inclusion of *Bacillus coagulans* is intended to maintain the balance of intestinal microflora and prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea, a common side effect of broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. The product is marketed in India by Rishab Health Care.
