cefpodoxime proxetil + tazobactam

CEDOCEF TZ is an oral fixed-dose combination antibiotic containing cefpodoxime proxetil and tazobactam, developed and marketed by Cedna Biotech. Cefpodoxime proxetil is a third-generation cephalosporin prodrug that, upon oral administration, is hydrolyzed to its active metabolite, cefpodoxime. Cefpodoxime exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to and inactivating penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. Tazobactam is a penicillanic acid sulfone derivative that acts as a potent beta-lactamase inhibitor. It irreversibly binds to and inactivates a wide variety of beta-lactamase enzymes, including many plasmid-mediated and chromosomal enzymes that frequently cause resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins. By inhibiting these enzymes, tazobactam protects cefpodoxime from enzymatic degradation and extends its antibacterial spectrum to include many beta-lactamase-producing organisms. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of mild-to-moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms, including acute otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
