ceftazidime + tazobactam sodium

Ceftazidime + tazobactam sodium is a combination antibiotic consisting of the third-generation cephalosporin ceftazidime and the beta-lactamase inhibitor tazobactam sodium, typically formulated in a 3:1 ratio. Developed by Hainan Honz Pharmaceutical, the drug is designed to treat severe bacterial infections, including pediatric pneumonia, by overcoming resistance mediated by beta-lactamases. Ceftazidime acts by binding to and inhibiting bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby disrupting cell wall synthesis, while tazobactam irreversibly inhibits various beta-lactamases, preventing the enzymatic degradation of ceftazidime. The product is administered via injection and has been evaluated in clinical trials for safety and efficacy in children. In China, the combination has previously received approval for use in adults as a national key new product.
