Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ceftibuten + xeruborbactam** is an investigational fixed-dose oral combination of ceftibuten, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic, and xeruborbactam, a cyclic boronic acid beta-lactamase inhibitor delivered as a prodrug. Xeruborbactam inhibits a broad range of beta-lactamases, including serine and metallo-beta-lactamases, restoring and enhancing ceftibuten’s activity against multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens. The combination is in development for oral treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis, and other infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria where oral therapy is desirable or required. It is being developed to address antibiotic resistance and enable effective outpatient management of serious Gram-negative infections. Qpex Biopharma is the primary developer[1][2][7][9].
