Overview

**ceftriaxone + hyaluronidase** is a combination therapy where ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, is co-administered with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that increases the dispersion and absorption of subcutaneously injected medications. Ceftriaxone acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis via binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial death. Hyaluronidase catalyzes the depolymerization of hyaluronic acid in the extracellular matrix, which enhances drug absorption and bioavailability when given subcutaneously by creating microchannels throughout the tissue[1][2][3][4][5][6]. This combination is primarily researched as an alternative method for delivering ceftriaxone via subcutaneous route and improving its pharmacokinetic profile; it is not currently approved as a fixed combination product.
