This is a combination of two separate antibiotics: ceftriaxone (a third-generation cephalosporin) and imipenem (a carbapenem, typically administered with cilastatin). Both are beta-lactam antibiotics that work by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Ceftriaxone binds to carboxypeptidases, endopeptidases, and transpeptidases in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane, while imipenem binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This combination would provide broad-spectrum coverage against many types of bacteria, though they are not typically used together as standard therapy due to overlapping spectrums of activity.
