Ceftriaxone + tazobactam is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic consisting of ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin, and tazobactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Ceftriaxone works by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential enzymes involved in the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to bacterial lysis and death. Tazobactam is a penicillanic acid sulfone derivative that functions as an irreversible inhibitor of many beta-lactamases, enzymes produced by bacteria to degrade beta-lactam antibiotics. By inhibiting these enzymes, tazobactam protects ceftriaxone from degradation, thereby extending its antibacterial spectrum to include many beta-lactamase-producing organisms. This combination is manufactured by Mancure Drugs and is indicated for the treatment of various serious bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, urinary tract infections, and septicemia.
