Overview

Ceftriaxone + vancomycin is a fixed-dose combination of two antibiotics used to treat serious bacterial infections. Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. Vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic that binds to the acyl-D-ala-D-ala portion of peptidoglycan precursors in the bacterial cell wall, preventing cross-linking and resulting in cell wall destruction. This combination is effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and is indicated for severe infections such as pneumonia, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections (including osteomyelitis), intra-abdominal infections, urinary tract infections, sepsis, septic shock, meningitis, and endocarditis prophylaxis in high-risk patients[1][2][4][5]. The combination has been shown to be well tolerated with no significant adverse effects on liver or kidney function[2].
