Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two cephalosporin antibiotics. Ceftriaxone sodium is a third-generation cephalosporin administered parenterally (IV/IM), while cefuroxime axetil is a second-generation cephalosporin administered orally. Both antibiotics work by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, preventing the final transpeptidation step needed for peptidoglycan cross-linking. This combination might be used for sequential therapy, starting with parenteral ceftriaxone followed by oral cefuroxime axetil.
