cefuroxime + sulbactam

Cefuroxime + sulbactam is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic therapy consisting of cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin, and sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Developed by Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals, this combination is designed to treat a variety of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms that would otherwise be resistant to cefuroxime alone. Cefuroxime works by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) involved in the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis. Sulbactam acts as a suicide inhibitor of beta-lactamases, protecting the cefuroxime component from enzymatic hydrolysis.
