cefuroxime + tazobactam

Cefuroxime + tazobactam is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic consisting of the second-generation cephalosporin cefuroxime and the beta-lactamase inhibitor tazobactam. Cefuroxime exerts its bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Tazobactam extends the spectrum of cefuroxime by irreversibly inhibiting various beta-lactamases, particularly those belonging to Richmond-Sykes classes II, III, IV, and V (Class A penicillinases and cephalosporinases), thereby preventing the enzymatic degradation of cefuroxime. Developed by Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals, this combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains, including lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections.
