Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination regimen consisting of four drugs: - **Celecoxib** is a selective COX-2 inhibitor (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) with anti-inflammatory and potential antineoplastic properties, thought to exert anticancer effects partly via inhibition of angiogenesis. - **Vinblastine** is a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation, thereby arresting cell division in metaphase and acting as an antimitotic chemotherapeutic agent. - **Cyclophosphamide** is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA strands, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells; it also has immunosuppressive properties. - **Methotrexate** is an antimetabolite and antifolate agent that inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, blocking DNA synthesis and cell replication. This specific four-drug combination does not correspond to any widely recognized or standard named regimen. However, combinations involving subsets of these agents (notably cyclophosphamide plus methotrexate) are used in metronomic chemotherapy for advanced cancers such as metastatic breast cancer[1][3]. The rationale for combining these agents would be to target cancer cells through multiple mechanisms—antiangiogenic (celecoxib), cytotoxic/antimitotic (vinblastine), DNA damage (cyclophosphamide), and inhibition of nucleotide synthesis (methotrexate).
