Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This cell-based influenza vaccine is a prophylactic vaccine being developed and localized in Saudi Arabia by Vaccine Industrial Holding (VIC) in partnership with CSL Seqirus and the Saudi Ministry of Health. Unlike traditional influenza vaccines produced in embryonated chicken eggs, this vaccine utilizes a mammalian cell-culture manufacturing platform. This technology offers several advantages, including the avoidance of egg-adaptive mutations that can reduce vaccine effectiveness, a faster manufacturing turnaround time during pandemic threats, and suitability for individuals with egg allergies. The project is part of a strategic initiative to enhance Saudi Arabia's national health security and vaccine self-sufficiency.
