CERE-120 + CERE-140 refers to a gene therapy program developed by Ceregene, Inc. (acquired by Sangamo Therapeutics) that utilizes adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors to deliver neurotrophic factors for the treatment of neurodegenerative and ocular diseases. CERE-120 (AAV2-NRTN) is designed to deliver the gene for neurturin, a member of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) family, and was primarily evaluated for Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease. CERE-140 (AAV-NT4/5) is engineered to deliver the gene for Neurotrophic Factor 4/5 (NT4/5) to retinal or optic-nerve tissues to provide neurotrophic support for conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. While CERE-120 reached Phase 2b clinical trials for Parkinson's disease, CERE-140 remained in preclinical development.
