Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cetaphil is a widely available over-the-counter topical emollient and moisturizing cream. In a clinical research context led by Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas City, it was utilized as a comparator treatment against 0.01% estradiol cream for the management of prepubertal labial adhesions. The therapeutic approach combined the application of the emollient with lateral traction therapy to facilitate the physical separation of the labia. While Cetaphil provides hydration and serves as a protective barrier to the skin, clinical trial results indicated that while it contributed to some improvement, it was significantly less effective than estrogen-based therapy in achieving complete resolution of adhesions. Cetaphil products typically contain a mixture of emollients and humectants such as glycerin, petrolatum, and dimethicone.
