Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cetirizine is a second-generation H1 antihistamine that selectively antagonizes peripheral histamine H1 receptors. By blocking the action of histamine, it effectively reduces symptoms associated with allergic conditions, such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and pruritus in allergic rhinitis, as well as the itching and swelling associated with urticaria. Unlike first-generation antihistamines, cetirizine has a lower affinity for central nervous system receptors, which significantly reduces its sedative potential. It is developed and marketed by Guangdong Dongyang Guangyao Pharmaceutical under the brand name Xining and is administered orally.
