Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JDP-205 (marketed under the brand name Quzyttir) is an injectable formulation of cetirizine hydrochloride, a second-generation H1 receptor antagonist. Developed by JDP Therapeutics and later acquired by TerSera Therapeutics, it is the first injectable H1 antihistamine approved by the FDA for the treatment of acute urticaria in adults and pediatric patients 6 months of age and older. Unlike first-generation injectable antihistamines such as diphenhydramine, cetirizine is highly selective for peripheral H1 receptors and does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier, resulting in a significantly lower incidence of sedation and anticholinergic side effects. The injectable route (intravenous or intramuscular) provides a rapid onset of action and serves as an alternative for patients who cannot tolerate oral medications during acute allergic episodes.
