Overview

Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever), perennial and seasonal allergies, urticaria (hives), and other allergic conditions. It works by blocking the action of histamine H1 receptor, thereby reducing allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Cetirizine is widely marketed under the brand name Zyrtec[1][2][3][4]. QAV680 (also known as NVP-QAV680) is a pyrrolopyridine derivative developed by Novartis as an antagonist of the chemoattractant receptor-homologous molecule expressed on Th2 cells (CRTh2 or DP2). It was investigated for inflammatory or obstructive airway diseases such as asthma and allergic rhinitis. QAV680 acts by selectively blocking prostaglandin D2 receptor 2 (CRTh2) involved in eosinophilic inflammation associated with these diseases[6][8]. The combination "cetirizine + QAV680" would theoretically target both histaminergic and prostaglandin D2-mediated pathways in allergy/inflammation.
