Cetuximab + paclitaxel + carboplatin is a combination chemotherapy and targeted therapy regimen used primarily in the treatment of recurrent or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (R/M SCCHN) and has also been studied in advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Cetuximab is a monoclonal antibody that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and survival. Paclitaxel is a microtubule-stabilizing agent that disrupts mitosis, leading to apoptosis of rapidly dividing cells. Carboplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic that causes DNA crosslinking, resulting in inhibition of DNA synthesis and function. This combination leverages different mechanisms to maximize anti-tumor activity: cetuximab blocks EGFR signaling, while paclitaxel and carboplatin act as cytotoxic agents against dividing tumor cells[1][2][4][5].
