Cetylpyridinium chloride + zinc lactate + sodium fluoride (CPC+Zn+F) is an investigational antiseptic oral rinse developed by the University of Guarulhos in Brazil. The formulation contains 0.075% cetylpyridinium chloride, 0.28% zinc lactate, and 0.05% sodium fluoride. It is primarily used as a pre-procedural mouthwash to reduce the concentration of viable bacteria in dental aerosols and splatters generated during ultrasonic scaling, particularly in patients with chronic periodontitis. Cetylpyridinium chloride provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity by disrupting bacterial cell membranes, while zinc lactate inhibits plaque formation and bacterial metabolism, and sodium fluoride aids in enamel remineralization. The combination has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials for its effectiveness in reducing the microbial load in dental environments.
