ChAd63 ME-TRAP + MVA ME-TRAP + Matrix-M is an investigational heterologous prime-boost malaria vaccine regimen developed by the **University of Oxford** in collaboration with **Novavax**. The regimen utilizes two distinct viral vectors: a chimpanzee adenovirus (ChAd63) and a Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA), both genetically engineered to express the Multiple Epitope-Thrombospondin-Related Adhesion Protein (ME-TRAP) antigen of *Plasmodium falciparum*. This antigen targets the pre-erythrocytic (liver) stage of the malaria parasite to prevent infection. The regimen is formulated with **Matrix-M** (also known as Matrix M-1), a proprietary saponin-based adjuvant developed by Novavax, which is designed to significantly enhance the magnitude and quality of the T-cell and antibody responses. This specific combination was evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety and immunogenicity, aiming to improve upon the efficacy of viral-vectored vaccines alone.
