Overview

ChAdOx1 + MVA refers to a heterologous prime-boost vaccination regimen that combines two viral vectors—ChAdOx1 (chimpanzee adenovirus Oxford 1) and Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA)—to deliver antigens for the prevention or treatment of infectious diseases or cancer. The approach is designed to induce robust cellular and humoral immune responses by priming with the adenoviral vector (ChAdOx1) and boosting with the poxviral vector (MVA). This platform has been used in vaccines targeting HIV-1 (HIVconsvX), hepatitis B virus (HBV), prostate cancer (targeting antigen 5T4), tuberculosis (antigen 85A), malaria, and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). The mechanism of action is immunostimulation via delivery of disease-specific antigens to elicit strong T-cell responses—especially CD8+ cytotoxic T cells—and antibody production. Multiple clinical trials have demonstrated safety and immunogenicity in humans[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
