Overview

ChAdOx2 RabG + inactivated rabies vaccine is a combination immunization regimen being developed by the University of Oxford for the prevention of rabies. The regimen consists of ChAdOx2 RabG, a viral vector vaccine utilizing a non-replicating simian adenovirus (ChAdOx2) to express the full-length glycoprotein of the Evelyn-Rokitnicki-Abelseth (ERA) strain of the rabies virus, coadministered with a licensed inactivated rabies vaccine (IRV) such as Verorab. This approach leverages the high immunogenicity of the ChAdOx2 platform—the same technology used in the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine—combined with traditional inactivated vaccine technology to potentially provide more rapid or durable protection. It is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in Tanzania to assess safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
