Overview

This entry refers to the combination therapy of "chemotherapy" (a class of cytotoxic drugs used to treat cancer) and "enoxaparin" (a low molecular weight heparin anticoagulant). This combination is not a single pharmaceutical product but rather a regimen in which enoxaparin is administered alongside standard chemotherapy protocols, particularly in oncology patients at increased risk for thromboembolic events. Enoxaparin acts by inhibiting factor Xa and IIa, reducing clot formation. The rationale for combining these therapies is that cancer patients receiving chemotherapy are at elevated risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE), and prophylactic anticoagulation with enoxaparin can reduce this risk without significantly increasing bleeding complications when dosed appropriately. Clinical studies have shown that adding prophylactic enoxaparin to chemotherapy regimens in advanced cancers such as pancreatic adenocarcinoma is feasible, safe, and does not adversely affect the efficacy or toxicity profile of the chemotherapy[3]. Chemotherapy mechanisms vary depending on agents used but generally involve inhibition of cell division or DNA synthesis.
