Overview

CHF5259 + CHF6001 is a combination of two investigational inhaled small molecule drugs developed by Chiesi Farmaceutici for respiratory diseases, primarily chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)[1][4]. CHF5259 is an inhaled formulation of glycopyrronium bromide, a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) that acts as a bronchodilator by blocking muscarinic M3 receptors in airway smooth muscle, leading to airway relaxation. CHF6001 (also known as tanimilast) is an inhaled, non-selective phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor that reduces airway inflammation by inhibiting the breakdown of cyclic AMP in inflammatory cells[2][3][5]. The combination aims to provide both bronchodilation and anti-inflammatory effects. CHF5259 + CHF6001 is being evaluated for pharmacokinetic interactions, safety, and efficacy when administered together via dry powder inhaler, targeting patients with COPD[1][4].
