Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chiglitazar + metformin is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy developed by Chipscreen Biosciences for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Chiglitazar is a novel small molecule peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) pan-agonist that targets all three PPAR isoforms (PPARα, PPARγ, and PPARδ), thereby regulating glucose and lipid metabolism and improving insulin sensitivity. Metformin is a biguanide that primarily works by inhibiting hepatic glucose production and increasing peripheral glucose uptake. This combination is formulated as an extended-release tablet and is intended for patients who have inadequate blood glucose control after treatment with metformin alone. Clinical trials have demonstrated that the combination provides continuous glucose reduction, blood lipid regulation, and potential cardiovascular risk reduction compared to metformin monotherapy.
