Overview

This Chinese herbal formula is an investigational decoction developed by the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of acute hemorrhagic stroke. It was evaluated as part of the "973" Project for Pathology of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The formula consists of eight specific herbs: Radix et Rhizoma Rhei Palmati (Rhubarb), Cornu Bubali (Buffalo Horn), Radix Paeoniae Rubra (Red Peony Root), Cortex Moutan Radicis (Tree Peony Root-bark), Radix Rehmanniae (Adhesive Rehmannia Root Tuber), Pheretima Aspergillum (Earthworm), Radix Notoginseng (Sanchi), and Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii (Tatarinow Sweetflag Rhizome). It is designed to address the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) patterns of "heat" and "blood stasis," aiming to reduce cerebral edema, promote hematoma absorption, and improve neurological recovery in patients following an intracerebral hemorrhage.
