This is a combination therapy consisting of chitosan and poly(γ-glutamic acid) (γ-PGA) nanoparticles loaded with interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). Chitosan is a biocompatible polysaccharide, while γ-PGA is an anionic polypeptide; together they form stable nanoparticle complexes that can serve as drug delivery vehicles. These nanoparticles are designed to enhance the immunomodulatory and antitumor effects of IFN-γ by improving its delivery and bioavailability. The combination has demonstrated synergistic therapeutic potential in preclinical models of breast cancer, where it significantly reduced tumor progression and metastatic burden compared to either component alone. Mechanistically, the formulation acts both as an immunotherapy—by delivering type II interferon (IFN-γ)—and as a nanomedicine adjuvant that modulates the tumor microenvironment and immune response through Toll-like receptor activation[1][2]. This approach represents a novel strategy for anticancer therapy.
