chitosan + hyaluronate

Chitosan + hyaluronate is an experimental hybrid hydrogel formulation developed by Ain Shams University for the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangement. The combination integrates the lubricating and anti-inflammatory properties of hyaluronic acid with the mucoadhesive and structural stability provided by chitosan. It is administered via intra-articular injection into the upper joint compartment following arthroscopic lysis and lavage. The gel is specifically investigated for patients with Wilkes Stage III or IV anterior disc displacement without reduction, aiming to improve joint mobility, reduce pain, and eliminate clicking sounds.
