Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The chitosan + selenium nanoparticles + olive oil nanocomplex (CS/SeNPs@Jouf Oo) is a novel anticancer therapeutic agent comprising environmentally biodegradable chitosan (CS), selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs), and Jouf olive oil (Jouf Oo). This nanocomposite, characterized by a nanostructure of approximately 95 nm and high thermal stability, is designed to provide a safer and more targeted alternative to traditional chemotherapies like doxorubicin. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of apoptosis in cancer cells through the modulation of key oncogenes and tumor suppressors, specifically the downregulation of anti-apoptotic BCL2 and the cell cycle regulator P21, alongside the upregulation of the tumor suppressor p53 and the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy against human colorectal adenocarcinoma (Caco2), hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2), and breast cancer (MCF7) cell lines, showing a four-fold increase in targeting cancer cells compared to normal cells.
