Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chitosan hydrogel + interleukin-12 is an investigational immunotherapy developed by Karamedica Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of superficial bladder cancer. This therapeutic approach employs a thermally sensitive, biocompatible chitosan hydrogel to facilitate the local delivery of interleukin-12 (IL-12) directly into the bladder via intravesical administration. IL-12 is a potent cytokine that orchestrates anti-tumor immunity by stimulating the activation and proliferation of T-cells and natural killer (NK) cells, thereby inducing a Th1-mediated immune response. The hydrogel delivery system is engineered to extend the residence time of the cytokine within the bladder, which aims to maximize local anti-tumor activity while reducing the risk of systemic side effects associated with IL-12.
