Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Radipol is a topical ophthalmic combination antibiotic ointment containing chloramphenicol and polymyxin B sulfate. It is marketed by Radisson Pharmaceuticals and is indicated for the treatment of superficial bacterial eye infections, such as bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and keratitis. Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Polymyxin B is a bactericidal antibiotic that targets Gram-negative bacteria by binding to lipopolysaccharides in the outer membrane, disrupting membrane integrity and causing cell lysis. Together, the two agents provide broad-spectrum coverage against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative ocular pathogens.
